T-Pod Autonomous Electric Transport Hits the Road
A fully autonomous and electric transport truck called the T-Pod is now traversing public roads in Sweden, following approval from government authorities.
The vehicle is a joint effort from German logistics company DB Schneker and Einride, a Swedish transport company specializing in self-driving vehicles.
The government approval for the project is valid until the end of 2020. It limits travel speed to only 5 km/h, short of the truck’s 85 km/h capabilities. The T-Pod has a 280 kWh battery, weighs 26 tons at full capacity, and should have an estimated range of 200 km. The operational route is limited to a single public road in Jönköping, travelling between a warehouse and terminal.
