Ford Picks Detroit Plant for EV Production
On March 20th Ford announced that the Flat Rock Assembly Plant south of Detroit will be their electric vehicle (EV) production hub.
The company plans to build next-generation EVs at the Flat Rock plant based on a new modular platform. Ford will invest more than $850 million through 2023 and add a second shift, approximately 900 jobs, to accommodate the new production.
“We’ve taken a fresh look at the growth rates of electrified vehicles and know we need to protect additional production capacity given our accelerated plans for fully electric vehicles,” Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of global operations, explained.
