Alexander Dennis launches its first hydrogen fuel cell bus

Scottish bus and coach manufacturer, Alexander Dennis (ADL) is now offering a double decker (two-story) hydrogen fuel cell powered bus.

This is the newest in a line of diesel engines, hybrid powertrain and electric vehicles (the latter being built in partnership with Chinese manufacturer BYD).

This new variant of the Enviro400 uses the new AxTrax AVE drive axle system made by German OEM ZF. With motors housed in each rear wheel, it delivers a net power of 250 kW (335 hp).

ADL has been working on the development of the two-story bus for the past two years alongside Arcola Energy, an engineering firm specializing in the integration of hydrogen production and storage systems.

The manufacturer has not yet disclosed any performance specs for the new bus. It has, however, confirmed that its order book is now open.
